Wonder Worlds — A Sunday Ride

Last Sunday I tried to combine everything that made this past summer so special for me. Despite a few obstacles, it worked out.

The route was a familiar one: via the royal castles, the Bleckenau to the Jägerhütte, then down to the Plansee, to the boat. Home then along the panoramic trail. So far, so good. It had been more than 20 years since I last rode this route.

Given my situation, the idea itself was already special: my e-bike, a Scott Lumen 910, was seriously challenged by this distance; the “Extension Pack” was used for the first time. I thought it should work out.

Once again I flew across the meadows early in the morning, already assisted electrically, because: it works out and it’s simply great. I sped along at breakneck pace.

I had forgotten that the climb by the royal castles makes the steep section at the Dürnberg look easy in comparison. But thanks to the electric assist, that wasn’t an issue. At the Marienbrücke I arrived at the same time as a bus: I kept passing people, my precious bike blocking the way — and I was quite relaxed on the half-full bridge.

I had my mushroom bag with me. At the Jägerhütte I had hopes for porcini — and I had also pushed the incredibly steep stretches up there out of my mind. Doable, but truly demanding. And then: nothing. Fly agarics one after another, but only a single porcini. Hmm.

The descent to Plansee was then a disappointment for me: impassable — almost like a creek bed. A push-along stretch. Alright. Finally at the lake, the wind was moderate, definitely appropriate for my skills. No one at the sunbathing spots anyway. Just Hermann alone, by water.

On the way back, there were breathtaking views.
